2030 Agenda
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a global commitment adopted in 2015 by the 193 Member States of the United Nations (UN). It defines 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets aimed at ending poverty, protecting the environment, and ensuring a dignified life for all by 2030.
The SDGs cover three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental, and they apply to both developed and developing countries.
Among the SDGs are:
- End poverty
- Zero hunger
- Good health and well-being
- Quality education
- Gender equality
- Clean water and sanitation
- Affordable and clean energy
- Decent work and economic growth
- Industry, innovation and infrastructure
- Reduced inequalities
- Sustainable cities and communities
- Responsible consumption and production
- Climate action
- Life below water
- Life on land
- Peace, justice and strong institutions
- Partnerships for the goals
A core principle of the 2030 Agenda is “Leave no one behind”, promoting inclusion and equity as pillars of development.
The implementation of the SDGs requires collaboration between governments, the private sector, civil society, and citizens. Each country develops its own action plans. To track progress, specific indicators for each goal and target have been established.
