Law 7/2021 and the Carbon Footprint in Cantabria

Law 7/2021, a national law applicable in Cantabria, requires large companies to measure and register their carbon footprint starting from January 1, 2025. This regulation is part of the national commitment towards climate neutrality by 2050, and Cantabria complements it with its Climate Change Action Strategy 2018-2030.

Who is obligated in Cantabria?

  • SMEs

  1. Calculate the carbon footprint
  2. Register emissions in the National Carbon Footprint Registry
  3. Develop a reduction plan
  4. Apply for aid for sustainable projects and energy efficiency
