Emission Reduction Plan
Spain has developed a series of framework plans to reduce its GHG emissions, with clear short, medium, and long-term goals. These plans are key to guiding climate action in sectors such as energy, transport, industry, and agriculture.
Key plans and strategies:
- National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) 2021-2030:
Sets targets for 2030, such as: - 32% emissions reduction compared to 1990.
- 48% renewable energy in final energy consumption.
- 81% renewable electricity generation.
- 43% improvement in energy efficiency.
- Climate Change and Energy Transition Law (2021):
Legal framework that requires: - Achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
- A 100% renewable electricity system.
- Banning new hydrocarbon exploration.
- Establishing low emission zones in cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
- Long-term Decarbonization Strategy:
Roadmap to reduce emissions by 90% by 2050 compared to 1990, achieving net-zero emissions.
Other initiatives:
- Carbon Footprint Register:
Allows Spanish organizations to register their efforts in calculating, reducing, and offsetting emissions. - National Emission Reduction Plan for Large Installations (PNRE-GIC):
Focused on reducing pollutants such as NOx, SO2, and particulates in large industries.
At airCO2, we help companies design their own emission reduction plan, aligned with existing regulatory frameworks and science-based methodologies.
