Initiatives:

  • Calculation of the carbon footprint: Scope 1, 2, and 3.
  • Development of a reduction plan.
  • Implementation of regenerative farming methods.
  • Water usage control methodology.
  • Use of electric vehicles and photovoltaic panels.

Initial problem:

Cool Berries, a leading company in organic blueberry farming in Europe, approached us with the goal of advancing towards carbon neutrality and improving the sustainability of their agricultural model. They faced challenges such as controlling their carbon footprint and optimizing resource use, particularly energy and water.

Solution implemented and time:

The solution implemented included several strategic measures. First, a comprehensive emission reduction plan was developed, which enabled them to become the first carbon neutral agricultural brand. They invested in installing photovoltaic panels, adopting regenerative farming methods, and eliminating waste burning. Additionally, water management was optimized with advanced technologies, and the use of hybrid and electric vehicles in their fleet was increased. This process was completed within a 12 to 18-month timeframe.

Results and benefits obtained:

The impact has been significant: they achieved a 19% reduction in their Scope 1 carbon footprint through fleet modernization, an increase in electricity consumption without increasing their Scope 2 footprint thanks to solar energy, and a 36% decrease in their Scope 3 footprint by selecting closer, environmentally committed suppliers. In terms of savings, the implementation of electric vehicles and photovoltaic panels reduced their energy bill by more than 20%, reinforcing the economic and environmental viability of their transition to a sustainable model.
